LAKELAND, Fla. -- SEU goalkeeper
Sofia Diaz has been named the Sun Conference Women's Soccer Defender of the Week after leading the Fire to a pair of shutouts against nationally ranked opponents.
Diaz was outstanding in net, recording eight total saves as Southeastern battled to a 0-0 draw at No. 16 Truett McConnell on September 3 and followed it up with a 2-0 win at No. 17 Georgia Gwinnett on September 5. Her efforts secured two unbeaten results on the road and highlighted her poise under pressure.
Through four matches this season, Diaz has totaled 11 saves and holds a 0.33 goals-against average, helping the Fire to a 3-0-1 start to the year.
Southeastern's next match is scheduled for Saturday, September 13, when the Fire travel to face New College of Florida at 7 p.m. in Sarasota. The team's originally scheduled contest at Florida College on Thursday was canceled.
