BABSON PARK, Fla. -- SEU Volleyball extended its winning streak with a convincing 3–0 sweep on the road against Webber International Wednesday night, improving to 13–2 overall and 4–1 in Sun Conference play. Set scores went 25–22, 25–8, 25–18.
The Fire were tested early in the opening frame, trading points with Webber through ten ties and four lead changes. Down the stretch, back-to-back kills from
Laura Bonomi helped SEU pull away in the closing points to secure the 25–22 win. In the second set, Southeastern broke open a close start with a 9–1 run midway through, fueled by strong serving from
Haven Speer and a trio of kills from
Yarelis Lopez, racing out to a dominant 25–8 result. The Warriors made a push in the third, trimming the margin to two points midway through, but the Fire responded with a 6–2 run to take control and finish off the sweep, 25–18.
Bonomi powered the Fire attack with a match-high 17 kills while hitting .261 and adding 15 digs for a double-double. Lopez also reached double-digit kills with 10 and chipped in 11 digs. Freshman
Emma Reed was efficient at the net, hitting .429 with four kills.
Southeastern's balanced distribution came from setter Speer, who dished out 21 assists to go along with five digs and an ace.
Ashley Downs recorded her first career double-double with 11 assists and 16 digs, helping SEU control both tempo and defense.
The Fire defense frustrated the Warriors, holding them to a .008 attack percentage across the three sets.
Marysa Connors anchored the back row with 18 digs, while
Lucrezia Ceroni and
Emily Maske combined for four block assists. Overall, SEU out-dug Webber 76–65 and finished with six team blocks.
The Fire will return home for their next matchup on Wednesday, October 1, hosting Warner University at 6:30 p.m. inside The Furnace.
