Fire Rally Past Warner for Fifth Straight Win

SEU ties its longest winning streak of the season with a four-set comeback at The Furnace

LAKELAND, Fla. -- SEU Volleyball matched its longest winning streak of the season on Wednesday night, earning a fifth consecutive victory with a four-set win over Warner at The Furnace. After dropping the first set 25–20, the Fire regrouped to take control, winning the next three by scores of 25–19, 25–16, and 25–18.

The Royals struck first by capitalizing on early SEU errors to edge out a tight opening frame. Southeastern steadied in the second, pulling away late behind improved ball control. The Fire then rolled through the third set, never trailing in a 25–16 decision, before closing out the match with their sharpest performance of the night — hitting .344 as a team in the fourth. It marked SEU's second comeback win this season after losing the opening set.

Individually, Yarelis Lopez led the Fire with 15 kills and 16 digs for a double-double. Laura Bonomi followed closely with 13 kills and 12 digs, while Emily Maske added nine kills and Jewel Carling chipped in six.

Southeastern's two-setter system kept the offense balanced, as Ashley Downs tallied 25 assists and 12 digs, while Haven Speer contributed 16 assists and 18 digs. Marysa Connors anchored the back line with a team-best 21 digs, giving SEU four players in double figures defensively.

The team numbers reflected just how close the contest was. The Fire edged Warner in kills (49–46), aces (6–4), assists (48–42), and digs (86–84), while the Royals held the advantage at the net with nine blocks to SEU's four.

With the victory, Southeastern improved to 14–2 overall and 5–1 in Sun Conference play, with the five-match winning streak tying their best of the season.

The Fire now turn their attention to a marquee test at home, welcoming No. 12 St. Thomas on Saturday at 2 p.m. inside The Furnace for a key Sun Conference showdown
