LAKELAND, Fla. -- The SEU Women's Soccer team suffered a 4-1 setback to No. 1 Keiser on Wednesday evening at the SEU Soccer Field.
The Seahawks wasted little time establishing control. Maria Vilhena opened the scoring in the 5th minute, then doubled the advantage less than four minutes later off a feed from Steingerthur Snorradottir. Vilhena completed her hat trick in the 18th minute, giving Keiser a commanding 3-0 lead just past the midway point of the first half.
Southeastern generated a handful of chances before the break, including efforts from
Ariadna Lozano and
Rebecca Laface, but trailed 3-0 at halftime.
Keiser extended the margin early in the second half when Blanca Bachi capitalized in the 56th minute to make it 4-0. The Fire responded with their brightest moment of the night in the 65th minute, as
Grace Banker broke free and delivered her fourth goal of the season. Banker's strike not only gave SEU its lone tally of the match but also snapped a run of nearly 338 minutes in which Keiser had not allowed a goal.
Southeastern finished with five shots, with Banker leading the way with two, while goalkeepers
Sofia Diaz and
Ella Sebree combined for four saves against the Seahawks' eight shots on frame.
The Fire move to 5-1-1 on the season and will be back in action Saturday, September 27th, traveling to Boca Raton to face Lynn University at 6 p.m.
