Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The Fire showed they can win in a number of ways on Friday. Southeastern University plated ten runs in two innings to take the opener, 15-6, and combined Aaron Robertson's 14 strikeouts and a pair of home runs to complete a doubleheader sweep of No. 21 Concordia University (Neb.) with a 4-1 win in game two.
Game one was scoreless after the first 2.5 innings until Alfonso Villalobos drilled a 3-run home run for a 3-0 Fire lead in the third. In the fourth, SEU made the most of three hits and mixed in four walks and two hit batters, four with the bases loaded, and a key Charlie Collins RBI double to put a seven-spot on the board and stretch the lead to 10-0.
In the second game, Jon Paul Pennella singled up the middle and trotted home when Collins followed with a two-run home run. That's all the runs that Robertson needed, as he scattered six hits with only a lead-off home run in the seventh, striking out 14 in the process.
Collins led the Fire's 20-hit attack over the two games with a 5-for-7 afternoon. He scored four runs, laced three doubles, and the two-run home run, with five RBI.
Pennella, who scored three times, and Nick Streuer, both contributed three singles and an RBI along with three runs.
Villalobos produced a single, double, and three-run home run with two runs and six RBI. Connor Hicks, James Strom, and Myles White rounded out the multi-hit SEU batters.
Reece Wissinger (5-0) gave up four earned runs, his first of the season, but fanned eight batters as part of another winning start in game one. Olivis Genao and Tyler Zylstra both had scoreless innings of work.
With the win, SEU improves to 20-0. They return to action tomorrow when they host Concordia in another doubleheader to wrap up their 4-game series. First pitch of game one is at 12 p.m.
