Fire Record Five Standard Efforts in USF Alumni Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. – The Fire stepped up in competition, but they still came away with some quality marks. Southeastern University recorded five NAIA Qualifying Standard efforts as part of competing against all NCAA DI competitors at the USF Alumni Invitational.

SEU saw James Williamson III, Davien Worrels and the men's 4x100-meter relay team all eclipse the 'B' Standard. For the women, both Maci Mills and Areeyanna Bonds posted their own standard-reaching times in the 800 meters and 400-meter hurdle events.

Williamson set not only an impressive 20.94-second time in the 200-meter dash, but he took fifth place in the event. Worrels ran a time of 47.43 seconds in the 400-meter dash for 13th. The two Fire men teamed with Malik Blunt, and Jacoreyus Demps for a time of 40.86 seconds in the 4x100-meter relay for 11th.

Mills legged out a time of 2:12.88 for her NAIA Qualifying time in the 800-meter dash where she was 26th on the day. Bonds added her name to the qualifying standard bearers with a 1:03.58 time in the 400-meter hurdles for 29th.

Even though her placings were high for the events, Irmiris Mendez narrowly missed meeting the Qualifying Standard in both the 200 meters (24.73) and 100-meter hurdles (14.31).

Staying on the women's side of the docket, Sophie Robinson ran to 8:14.31 for the highest field placing of fifth in the 2,000-meter Steeplechase. Jadyn DeVerna and Ashlin Price registered two solid runs in the 5000 meters with times of 18:30.42 (12th) and 18:37.60 (14th).

Emma Terry and Baylie Hartman threw for 33.84 and 27.43 meters in the javelin for 10th and 12th. Alyssa Morley was also 16th in the high jump at a height of 1.55 meters.

For the men, Worrels narrowly missed the Qualifying Standard to go with Williamson in the 200 meters as he had a time of 21.21 and Blunt was in at 21.41.

In the 2,000-meter Steeplechase, Luke Cullary and Felipa Ledesma claimed the top two SEU individual places with second (6:33.34) and third (6:40.40).

Kevin Davis Jr. hurdled his way to a time of 53.35 seconds for 14th in the 400-meter hurdles, while Mario Thomas finished in 54.82.

Jeremiah Rutledge leaped to the best field event finish in 10th at 1.95 meters.

The SEU teams will split their athletes next Saturday (March 29) at the Miami Hurricane Collegiate Invitational and the University of Tampa Spartan Relays.
