LAKELAND, Fla. – The Coastal College of Georgia took advantage of two multi-run innings in each game and captured both ends of the doubleheader, 6-2 and 6-3, over Southeastern University.
In the opener, with the game tied at one, the Mariners used four singles and scored two runs to take a 3-1 lead and it was all they would need. Down 6-1 in the seventh, Kassidy Moore, Chapel Cunningham, and Ella Brooks each singled to load the bases with two outs. Raylei McKinney singled home Moore, but Coastal Georgia retired the next SEU batter to end the game.
In game two, Coastal Georgia (20-7/5-3 Sun Conference) scored three runs in the third and held the lead to win. SEU (21-5/3-2 Sun Conference) received a Leah Gonzalez solo homer in the fourth and a Moore 2-run shot in the sixth, but they couldn't get any closer.
Of the 18 Fire hits on the day, Erica Ramsey and Moore accounted for almost half of them, with four apiece. Ramsey finished the day with a 3-for-3 game two, adding two runs. Moore went 2-for-3 in each game with two runs, a two-run home run, and two RBI.
Gonzalez homered and singled, while both Cunningham, Brooks, and Lauren Sekinger had a hit in each game. McKinney singled in a run in game one and Hailey Bradley added the final home hit.
SEU aims to take the final game of the series on Saturday afternoon against Coastal Georgia. The first pitch will scheduled for 12 p.m.
