Fire Coast Past Warriors

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Southeastern University doubled up Webber International in the first period, went on a 15-point run in the second, and coasted to an 85-47 Sun Conference win Saturday afternoon.

The Fire domatinated from the start, going on an 11-0 run to start the game. Courtni Demorest hit a jumper with six seconds left in the quarter for a 28-14 lead after 10 minutes. SEU then rattled off teh first 15 points of the second period for a 27-point lead, 43-16. SEU kept the heat on in the third, outscoring the Warriors, 27-13.


SEU used a balanced scoring attack with five double-digit scorers led by Grace Field's double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds along with two blocks and two steals. Jodi Mullins hit for 12 points and two assists, while Rosa Redondo Sorribes connected on a pair of treys for 11 points with four boards, two steals, and two assists.

Off the bench, Alley Haas dropped three 3-pointers for 12 points and pulled in three rebounds. Mya Herman added 11 points, five assists, four rebounds, and three steals.

Running the offense, Anaya Coleman handed out a season-high 10 assists to go with eight points, six steals, and three rebounds. Kassidy Jones added eight points, seven boards, and two assists to the total. Ariana Smuda made all three of her shots for six points and swatted three shots.
 

Jaiden Ross led Webber International with 16 points.


With the win, SEU improved its mark to 19-4 and 9-2 in the Sun Conference and are again in a three-way toe for first place in the conference. The Fire claimed their fifth win in a row over the Warriors (4-15/1-10 Sun Conference) and sweep of the season series after an 82-50 win in Lakeland on January 4.
 

The Fire return to action on Wednesday when they host St. Thomas University. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m..
