MOBILE, Ala. -- SEU Men's Basketball remained locked in during its late-November swing, never trailing in an 84–70 victory over Mobile on Tuesday afternoon. The Fire improved to 7–1 overall, using balanced scoring, a fast start, and a strong closing stretch to complete another confident performance away from home.
SEU opened the game with immediate purpose, racing out to a 17–5 run over the first 5:39. Crisp ball movement and decisive attacking set the tone early as the Fire scored on their first three possessions and consistently generated clean looks inside. Southeastern forced Mobile into difficult jumpers and limited second-chance opportunities, closing defensive trips with composed rebounding. Behind 53.6% shooting in the opening half and a late three from
Jayson Nixon, SEU carried a 44–32 lead into the break.
Mobile responded early in the second half with increased tempo and rim pressure, gradually cutting into the margin. The Rams delivered their biggest surge of the afternoon with a push that trimmed the SEU lead to 58–54 with 12:16 remaining, the narrowest the score had been since the game's opening minutes.
But Southeastern immediately answered with its most authoritative stretch. The Fire responded by scoring 13 of the next 18 points, regaining full control through patient half-court execution and disciplined defense.
Nathan Mikkelson finished through contact twice,
LaDavian King buried a rhythm three, and
Mylo Santos added a tough layup that swung momentum back firmly toward the Fire. That burst ignited what became a 24–12 run, extending SEU's lead to 16 with 1:50 left, matching the largest margin of the game and effectively putting it out of reach.
Five Fire players finished in double figures, showcasing the depth and balance that powered the afternoon. King delivered a team-high 16 points on 4-of-7 shooting and a perfect 6-for-6 at the line, while adding four rebounds, three assists, and a steal off the bench. Mikkelson anchored the interior with a 12-point, 15-rebound double-double, including three offensive rebounds and four assists as a facilitator from the high post.
Santos added 14 points, three assists, two steals, and a block. Nixon and
Anthony Kangah each scored 12 points, combining for five made threes.
Jarin Edwards supplied six rebounds, four assists, and two steals in one of his strongest all-around outings of the season.
As a team, SEU shot 52.5%, won the glass 40–24, and dominated the interior with 34 points in the paint while holding Mobile to 39% shooting and just four second-chance points.
Next up, Southeastern returns home on Saturday, November 29, hosting Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) at 3 p.m. inside The Furnace.
