Balanced Attack Fuels Fire to Fifth Straight Win

SEU Scores Season-High 92 in Home Victory Over Fort Lauderdale

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The SEU Women's Basketball team continued its scorching start to the 2025–26 campaign with a 92–42 rout of Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday night inside The Furnace. The Fire, now 5-0, put together a complete performance on both ends of the floor, showcasing their offensive balance, defensive pressure, and depth in front of the home crowd.

The Fire wasted little time establishing control, opening the game on an 11-0 run that set the tone for the night. Alley Haas got the offense rolling with a trio of early threes, including a pair in the opening two minutes. Southeastern's spacing and unselfish ball movement forced defensive breakdowns throughout the first quarter, as five different players scored during a 23-point frame that gave SEU a double-digit cushion after 10 minutes.

In the second quarter, Southeastern turned efficiency into dominance, hitting 54 percent from the field and knocking down 10-of-11 free throws. Mafalda Chambel was in complete control of the offense, orchestrating fast breaks and pick-and-roll sets while scoring nine of her 15 points in the period. Mya Herman added a spark off the wing with a quick seven points on perfect shooting as the Fire extended their lead to 48-26 at the half. Defensively, SEU clamped down on the perimeter, holding Fort Lauderdale to just 38 percent shooting in the half and forcing 18 turnovers that led to 23 first-half points off takeaways.

Southeastern's third quarter might have been its most complete of the season. The Fire shot over 61 percent from the field and outscored the Eagles 30-12. Haas continued her hot shooting, draining two more threes to finish the night with a team-high 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. Sarah Davis provided an instant boost off the bench, connecting twice from deep and scoring six of her 11 points in the frame. Kristiana Kulackovska was active inside, pulling down six rebounds and adding 10 points, while Grace Field stuffed the stat sheet with seven boards, four steals, and four assists in an all-around effort.

By the start of the fourth quarter, Southeastern's defense had completely taken the life out of Fort Lauderdale's offense. The Eagles were limited to just four points in the final period, shooting 14 percent while committing another handful of turnovers against SEU's pressure. Even as the Fire rotated deep into the bench, their energy never waned. Junior guard Ellah Kissell added six points and two steals, and Davis continued to pressure passing lanes, helping SEU collect 15 steals as a team. Ten different players entered the scoring column for SEU, including contributions from Eva Bishop (six points, three rebounds) and Grace Pitzer (seven points, one triple).

The Fire finished the game shooting 47.8 percent from the field, 45 percent from three-point range, and 79 percent from the line, while recording 19 assists on 32 made field goals. Their defensive dominance was equally impressive—forcing 32 turnovers, converting them into 45 points, and holding Fort Lauderdale to just 42 points overall, including only four in the final 10 minutes. Southeastern's bench was equally lethal, contributing 33 points to cap off the program's highest offensive output of the season so far.

SEU will look to carry its momentum into Sun Conference play when it opens league action on the road against Florida Memorial on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Miami Gardens.
