Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Christopher Myers

Gritty Fire Fall to #2 Seahawks

LAKELAND, Fla. – Southeastern University tied the game with just over seven minutes left, only to see No. 2 Keiser University answer with two goals in less than two minutes for a 4-3 women's soccer final at the SEU Soccer Complex.

Down 1-0, SEU's Makayla Peddycoart volleyed a cross from Katie Carnes, and tipped the ball past the goalie and off the crossbar to tie the game at one. Following a Keiser goal in the early second half to go ahead, 2-1, Rebecca Laface received a redirected cross from Madelyn Davidson, which she put just over the goalkeeper into the far right netting at 81:28 to tie the game at two.

However, the game would not be tied for long, as the Seahawks scored a pair of goals over the next 1:49 to take a 4-2 lead. Davidson pulled the Fire back to within a goal with 86:22 elapsed as she was left alone and bounced it off the inside of the right post to cut the deficit to one. The home team couldn't find the equalizer in the last three-plus minutes before the game ended.

With the loss, SEU falls to 1-4-1 and 0-2 in The Sun Conference. Keiser stays on top of the conference (5-0, 2-0). The Fire's four defeats have all come at the hands of ranked opponents, including two of the top three squads in the nation.

"I feel like we finally looked more like ourselves tonight," said head coach, Caleb Roberts. "We were more crisp and I thought the girls worked extremely hard. It's been a tough start to the season, but tonight proved were getting back on track."

The Fire return to the SEU Soccer Complex on Saturday afternoon when they host No. 17 SCAD. Kickoff is 2:00 p.m..
