Softball Completes Sweep of Royals

Fire softball took care of business at home today behind a shutout game in game one and electric batting in game two. The Fire advanced to 29-11, 9-3 SUN and dropped the visiting Warner Royals to 16-22, 4-8 SUN thanks to a 6-0 game two win and a 7-3 game three win.

In game two Edan Playa went the distance from the pitcher's circle, working efficiently and garnering her 11th win of the season. Within the seven innings, Playa struck out six and only walked one batter in the complete game shutout.

Raylei McKinney, Riley Sanders, and Ella Brooks all had three hits, and McKinney finished with three RBIs and a stolen base. Sanders added an RBI of her own in the sixth inning with a triple down the right field line scoring Ella Brooks.

Hailey Brooks drove home McKinney in the fifth, and Nicole Wasserstrom dropped a sacrifice bunt in the fifth to drive home Sanders, one of Sanders three runs scored in the game.

Consistent effort from all sides pushed the Fire to their tenth consecutive win over Warner and second win in a row.

Game three started similarly to game two with the Fire crossing the plate twice in the first, however, in the second Southeastern unloaded, scoring five times on four hits as one of the runs was scored on a walk with the bases loaded.

Eight different Fire batters had a hit, and Kaitlyn Quillen and Lauren Sekinger registered two RBIs each.

Leah Gonzalez only recorded one at bat because she was able to draw three walks, similarly Hailey Brooks drew two walks on one recorded at bat.

Claire Sekinger worked through the four innings striking out three and only allowing two hits, she went on to her eighth victory pushing her record to 8-3. Maria Zelenka took over in the fifth and took home her second save of the season.

The Royals fought to the finish, recorded their first three runs of the game in the top of the seventh, but the Fire defense stood strong when they needed to and claimed the 7-3 victory.

The Fire adventure over to Webber International University for a three-game series starting next Friday at 4 p.m.
