#3 Fire Women's Tennis picked up their second top five victory of the season, running the ropes with #4 Middle Georgia State with a 4-3 win in the second to last match to finish.
Southeastern claimed two out of the three matches in doubles, granting themselves the lead off point over the Knights.
Martina Picardi and
Simone Simas ruled the first flight 6-2 over Marina Prieto and Lucille Jence, flight three ended right after with the Fire's
Neleah Neiberline and
Irene Lopez falling 6-2 to Aya El Marrasse and Sandra Recuenco.
The second flight, and the deciding match boasted an impressive victory for SEU as Flamina Guidantoni and
Ingrid Montserrat defeated the #12 doubles team in the NAIA in Lena Golz and Paula Rodiguez 6-3.
Singles also went all the way to the wire with Fire and Knights splitting the first two lines to finish. Guidantoni took a point for the Fire with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Jence in line three, Prieto captured a point for the Knights with a 6-3, 6-2 taking of line two over Neiberline.
Same was said for lines one and five which were the next two lines to finish. Montserrat defeated Rodiguez in a 6-2, 6-3 conquest putting the Fire ahead 3-1 in the match. Line one boasted #11 Picardi and the Knights Recuenco, Picardi took the first set 6-4 and was outplayed in the last two sets 6-2, 6-0 as Recuenco kept Middle Georgia State's hopes alive.
Lopez ended the Knights hopes of a top five victory with a 6-7(7-4), 6-2, 6-3 outlasting of El Marrasse, Lopez was injured in the final set and finished regardless, when asked about it after the match she said, "We needed the point, my teammates needed me and I needed them, so I didn't care about the pain." This triumph claimed the match for the Fire, giving them the four points necessary for victory.
#32 Simas's match was finished shortly after, as #23 Golz of the Knights stole the match with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 come from behind victory in the fourth line. Regardless of the loss, the Fire claimed a 4-3 win advancing to 6-2 on the season and dropping the Knights to 6-3.
The Fire return to action on March 13 to take on Division I Colgate University at 1 p.m., and #6 Ave Maria University on Friday at 1 p.m. for another dose of Sun Conference and top ten play.
