LAKELAND, Fla.- Just three games await the 16-2 Fire baseball team this week as they look to finish their schedule of spring break games on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
Through 18 games, Southeastern sits on a five-game win streak, improving their team batting average to .289 and driving in 134 runs, led by first baseman
Gary Lora, who is hitting .354 coming into the week with five home runs and a team leading 19 runs batted in. The Fire have shined on the mound, posting a team 3.06 ERA, striking out 252, and holding their opponents to a .169 average at the plate.
The first opponent of the week lies in Calumet College of St. Joseph. The Crimson Wave come into the week 3-7, and will play two games before seeing the Fire on Wednesday. Currently, they hit .243 at the plate with a 9.31 ERA on the mound. Southeastern is undefeated all-time against the Crimson Wave, posting an 8-0 record dating back to 2010.
Next up for the Fire is Mount Marty University, who they will see on Friday. The Lancers post a 12-4 record coming into the week, and have four games to play before their meeting with the Fire, including a doubleheader against #15 Ave Maria University. They will be looking to even up the all-time record against the Fire, who hold a 2-1 advantage. Both teams have not met since 2017, where Southeastern took the 2-1 victory.
The final game of the week is arguably the biggest for the Fire, as they will take on #7 Bellevue University on Saturday in a top-10 matchup. The Bruins come into the week with an even 7-7 record, and will take on three other Sun Conference teams before meeting with the Fire. Southeastern will be looking to bounce back from their loss against the Bruins just last year, dropping the game 7-4.
First pitch Wednesday will be at 12 P.M., followed by an 11 A.M. start Friday, and a 12 P.M. start on Saturday.
