The #1 Southeastern University Fire Baseball squad defended their home field in dominant fashion from the Warner University Royals. The Fire won both games of the doubleheader in seven innings, 14-1 and 5-1.
SEU scored first and never looked back in the first game.
Ramsey David took the mound pitching four innings and striking out five.
Colby Martin handled two innings striking out one and claimed the win, and
Jay Schueler finished the deal with one strikeout in the final inning.
The Fire leadoff batters did most of the damage with nine hits and eight RBIs between
Josh Pigozzo,
Isaac Nunez, and
David Castillo. Castillo went 4-for-4 with five RBIs and two runs scored with a two-run homer, Nunez went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored and a two-run homer. Pigozzo went 2-for-4 but scored every time he got on base with four runs scored.
   Notably,
Luis Gonzalez performed strongly going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Josh Smith added an RBI with 2-for-2 and a walk.
The Fire did nine runs worth of damage in the sixth inning to hand the Royals their first Sun Conference loss of the season.
Four time Sun Conference pitcher of the week
Darien Smith started the second game, which was a pre-scheduled seven-inning match. Although the Royals struck first, Smith allowed no earned runs and struck out eight over five innings. The last two innings were handled by
Danny Batcher,
Jaren Warwick, and
Antonio Escano. The three pitchers allowed no hits and struck out a batter each.
  Â
Cristopher Munoz drove in two runs with a single to center field helping to give the Fire their first lead of the contest, 2-1 in the bottom of the second.
Pigozzo again batted well, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored both thanks to Castillo who proved his worth sacrifice in the third to give the Fire a 3-1 lead as well as a two-run bomb over the right field wall in the fifth inning for his second of the season. This propelled the Fire to get to what would be the final score, 5-1.
The Fire ended the game on a three pitch strikeout from Escano. With the win the Fire advanced to 25-2 and 6-0 in conference play, while the Royals dropped to 17-11 and 0-2 in conference play.
Ted A. Broer Stadium is again the host ballpark on Saturday as the Fire battle with the Royals twice more in a double header at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.
