LAKELAND, Fla.- After a 4-0 start to Sun Conference play, sweeping the #4 ranked Webber Warriors, the 23-2 (4-0 SUN) SEU baseball team returns home for more conference action, this time in a four game set versus the Warner University Royals.
Coming into the week, Southeastern is looking to increase their impressive 12-game win streak, with five of the twelve wins coming against top-10 ranked teams. They will look to keep the bats rolling, hitting .291 as a unit, led by Southeastern's two catchers
David Castillo and
Pablo Lanzarote, who hit .340 and .333 respectively.
On the mound, the Fire look to keep up their major successes, coming off a 4-0 shutout win over the Warriors. Pitching has been the strongest link for the Fire in their 2024 campaign, holding a team ERA of 2.75 and striking out 330 in 216 innings, holding their opponents to a .171 batting average.
Looking at their opponent for the week, the Warner Royals will face the Fire with a 17-9 record. This four game set will be the first conference matchup of the season for Warner, as they look to hold onto their current four-game win streak. The Royals hit .307 as a team, led by Junior outfielder Diego Guevara, who hits .400 through 23 games played. Defensively they hold an even 5.00 ERA, giving up 130 walks to their 185 strikeouts.
Historically, these two teams go all the way back to 2004, with Southeastern holding the all-time advantage 42-17-1. The Fire currently hold an eight-game winning streak over the Royals, and can break their longest winning streak of 11 games against Warner with a sweep this weekend.
