Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Southeastern, fresh off a comeback win where the batters shined late returned to Babson Park for a doubleheader against the #4 Webber Warriors. The Fire pitching staff proved their worth and batters turned in clutch hits as the Fire improved to 22-2 behind 5-2 and 4-2 victories. Webber fell to 21-6.
Game one saw one of the top pitchers in the NAIA in
Darien Smith go to work. Smith picked up the win advancing his record to 6-0 behind five strikeouts over the course of the seven inning game.
The Fire struck first when
Cristopher Munoz batted home
Tommy Davis in the third to make the game a 1-0 contest.
In the fifth was when the Fire delivered what was the early knockout blow as Southeastern connected for four hits, driving home four runs.
Chayce Bryant did the worst of the damage with a two RBI double, driving home Brandon Mondragon and
Isaac Nunez. Nunez had a RBI single earlier in the inning for his only hit of the game to accompany his run scored.
Webber tacked on a couple of late runs but it was not enough as the Fire controlled the pace and claimed victory in round two of the four game series.
Robb Adams ran the tables all the way to the eighth inning of Game 2 before handing off the reins to All-American reliever
Reece Wissinger. The pair allowed six hits and two runs over nine innings while striking out 11.
Just like the game earlier in the day the Fire scored four runs in one inning, four runs off the bats of
Matt Delay and
Tommy Davis was all the Fire needed for the win. Delay had a spectacular day for Southeastern going 3-6 and driving home a run and scored a run. Davis was the catalyst blasting a one-out three-run homer over the left field wall, driving the Fire to a 4-0 lead.
The Warriors again added a couple late game runs, but it was not enough to overcome the might of the Fire.
Southeastern returns for the last round of baseball at Babson Park, the first pitch of the fourth game is at 12 p.m.
