LAKELAND, Fla.-The 19-2 Southeastern baseball squad are looking to extend their eight-game win streak this week, with what may be one of their tougher regular season weeks. They start conference play with a four-game series on the road versus the #12 Webber International Warriors.
Offensively, the Fire have started to find their bats once again, scoring 30 runs in their three games last week. They are led by outfielder
Landrey Wilkerson, who hits .345, after a 6-for-8 past week, tallying seven RBIs. On the mound, the Fire lead the Sun Conference with a 2.97 ERA, as well as a conference best 289 strikeouts.
Darien Smith takes charge on the Fire pitching staff with a 0.77 earned run average and a 5-0 record, leading his team in strikeouts with 56 over 35 innings.
Looking at the opponent this week for the Fire, the Warriors are on a 13-game win streak, posting a 21-3 record, and a 4-0 start to conference play. They swept the #15 ranked Ave Maria Gyrenes to start their year in conference play. The Warriors hit .302 as a team, led by a .345 hitting Brodey Neveker. The Warriors fall second in the conference behind the Fire defensively, with a 3.36 ERA and 223 strikeouts. Blayne Huter leads the way for Webber, holding a 2.25 ERA, and a team best 39 strikeouts in 32 innings.
Southeastern currently leads all-time versus the Warriors, with a 37-19 record. The Warriors haven't won a series over the Fire since 2016, where they took two games over Southeastern.
First pitch in Babson Park will be this Thursday at 6 P.M.
