An offensive explosion from the Fire women's basketball team gave them an 84-59 win at home and moved them to 16-5 (7-1) on the year.
The Fire came into this game looking for revenge against the Ave Maria Gyrenes, who defeated them earlier this season 66-53, giving Southeastern their only conference loss this year. It was all Fire from the start, as they held onto the lead the entire game, never trailing once.
Turnovers were the key to success for the Fire, taking advantage of just about every Gyrene turnover, scoring 21 points off of Ave Maria's 17 turnovers. The three-pointer also played a large part in Southeastern's success, shooting almost 50% as a team from behind the line, with
Bekki Kalaydjiev and
Kacilyn Krebs sinking five 3-pointers each.
Kalaydjiev led the game with 22 points going 5-of-7 from 3-point range and dished out five assists, and Krebs behind her with 15. Maya Herman added 13 points
Courtni Demorest had a season high 14 points on the day.
Women's basketball returns to action in West Palm Beach, Fla., February 7th at 5:30 p.m. against the Keiser University Seahawks.
