Baseball Prepares For Doubleheader Weekend

LAKELAND, Fla.- Fire baseball gets ready for their spring break slate of games, starting with a doubleheader against Roosevelt University and Grand View University this Saturday.

Southeastern is coming off a bounce back weekend, snapping their two-game losing streak and sweeping the weekend, including a top-20 win vs #20 Point Park University. 

Coming into the week the Fire hold a 14-2 record, the best overall in the Sun Conference. The bullpen also leads the conference in several categories, including a conference best 2.70 ERA, with 222 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .164. Robb Adams and Darien Smith are the front runners for the Fire, with a combined record of 8-0, allowing only three earned runs and 71 strikeouts between the two in just 52.3 innings.

On the offensive side, Southeastern comes into the week with a team .276 average, led by Isaac Nunez, who is hitting .333 with 14 RBIs. Josh Smith follows closely behind, batting .326 with 11 RBIs, and Gary Lora has a team best 18 runs batted in.

Looking at the Fire opponents for the weekend, Roosevelt comes into the week with a small sample size of 4-2, their only two losses being to #22 ranked Central Methodist University. They will play a doubleheader Friday before seeing the Fire on Saturday. Through six games, they are hitting .283 as a team, driving in 23 runs and a team ERA of 6.08. The Roosevelt Lakers are led offensively by Kekoa Ogawa, who is hitting .500 through 18 at bats, driving in seven and responsible for the only two home runs produced by the team.

Grand View University comes into the week with a 4-3 record, and will see Southeastern in their fifth game of the week. The Vikings are hot at the plate, hitting .384 as a team with four starters hitting .500 or better, and a team 81 RBIs with 26 home runs through seven games. Brock Rinehart will be one of the players to watch for Grand View, hitting .545 through 22 at bats, sending five out of the yard.

First pitch between the Fire and Lakers will be Saturday at 12 P.M., and the Grand View game will follow shortly after, around 3 P.M.
