The battle between two of the top teams in the country ended in favor of the Tampa Spartans, who went on to win 10-7, moving the Fire to 11-2 on the season.
A slow start for Southeastern gave the Spartans an early 8-0 advantage just four innings into the game. The Fire were able to find their offense and respond with a seven-run fifth, taking advantage of two Spartan errors and two RBI walks.
Matt Delay also contributed to the inning with an RBI double, as well as
Isaac Nunez with an RBI single.
Southeastern was kept quiet on the offensive after the big seven-run inning, while Tampa tallied three runs of insurance to finalize the score at 10-7.
The Fire went through six pitchers, led by a
Ramsey David start, who posted two innings, allowing one earned on three strikeouts. The Fire pitching staff combined for 14 strikeouts on the night, issuing seven walks.
The offense only produced three hits, coming from Delay, Nunez and
David Castillo. Patience was the name of the game for the bats, as they walked nine times as a team.
Southeastern returns home for more NAIA baseball this Friday, versus the #20 ranked Point Park University Pioneers.
