LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern sent seven to the finals of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships and qualified 10 of their 12 wrestlers for nationals.
Parker Dobrocky was the 149-pound champion with a pair of technical falls and a 3-2 decision. The championship against teammate
Chris Kelly was not contested. Kelly was the runner up, winning in sudden victory in the semis over Reinhardt's Dawson Bates.
Andrew Voiles was the runner-up at 133 and
Kael Brisker was second at 141, getting a 4-2 decision over Bret Minor of Life.
Sal Silva placed second at 157, scoring an early second period fall in his first match of the day, fighting back from behind, then scored a second period technical fall in the quarterfinal round.
Andreus Bond was third at 157 with his lone loss of the day a 6-3 setback on a late takedown against eventual champion and wrestler of the year, Brevin Balmaceda.
John Roberts was the runner-up at 184 and won a true placement match to secure at bid to nationals.
Gabe Jacobs was second at 285, winning his first two matches by fall.
Trace Braun earned a bid at 165 after placing third, and
Graham Calhoun did the same at 174. Calhoun won four straight first period falls after a loss in the quarterfinals.
Gentry Smith and
Trevor Borom will wait on a national wildcard to see if the Fire will take a full roster to Wichita on February 29
th.
