A pitcher's duel of a game ended in dramatic fashion as the Fire walked off in the bottom of the ninth, winning 3-2 over No. 9 Taylor to advance to 10-0.
The visiting Trojans got things started in the top of the third with a run scored on a wild pitch, gaining the 1-0 advantage. Southeastern was able to quickly respond in the bottom of the fourth with a run scored on a wild pitch as well.
Taylor was then able to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth after a double and a throwing error. The Trojans were able to hold onto this lead until the bottom of the eighth inning when
Landrey Wilkerson scored from second on a
Gary Lora walk that got past the catcher.
Things ended for the Fire as they put together a solid bottom of the ninth, starting with a leadoff walk to
Tommy Davis, a pinch-hit single from
David Castillo, and back-to-back hit by pitches.
Josh Pigozzo was awarded with the game winning RBI on the HBP.
The bats were kept quiet for the majority of the game on both ends, led by six innings of work from
Darien Smith, tallying 11 strikeouts on 100 pitches. The bullpen came in clutch for the Fire as well, putting together three innings of no earned runs from Nick Gotilla and
Ramsey David. David picked up his first win of the season.Â
Southeastern returns to action tomorrow for games two and three versus Taylor, starting at 2 P.M.
