LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern racked up 21 hits in 14 innings to come away with a pair of victories against Thomas on Saturday to improve to 5-1 on the season.
A pair of RBIs by
Leah Gonzalez helped the Fire take the first game 5-3 and two RBIs from
Hailey Brooks in the second game were key to a 4-1 victory.
After leaving the bases loaded in the first inning of the day, the Fire picked up an RBI single from Brooks in the bottom of the second inning to score her sister, Ella from third. Gonzalez took the first pitch of the third inning over the left field wall for her first home run of the season to give the Fire a 2-0 advantage.
Thomas cut the deficit in half with an RBI double in the fourth which was answered in the next half inning with a two-out single to left by Gonzalez to score
Chapel Cunningham who had three hits in the game.
Mallory Watts squeezed home a run in the bottom of the fifth with a pinch-hit sacrifice bunt. Cunningham hit a two-out RBI single to right to put the Fire up four.
The Night Hawks got a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning and had the go-ahead run at the plate, but a double play ended the game.
Freshman
Edan Playa picked up her second win, allowing one run on five hits over 4.1 innings with four strikeouts and two walks.
Autumn Hunter earned the save with 2.2 innings in relief.
Claire Sekinger improved to 2-0 on the year with a complete game effort highlighted by seven strikeouts. The junior allowed just one run on six hits.

Ella Brooks with a single to left and
Lauren Sekinger brought home
Raylei McKinney with a two-out single to center field.
The Night Hawks answered in the top of the fourth with an RBI groundout to get within one, but the Fire came back with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning when a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt brought home
Alex Hilton who singled to lead off the inning.
Southeastern added a run in the bottom of the sixth with a squeeze bunt by
Hailey Brooks.
The Fire will return to action on Friday when they host New College of Florida and Florida National.
