Seven-Run Fifth Gives Baseball The Series Sweep

The Southeastern baseball team swept their second series of the year, winning game three against the Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles 9-5, moving the team to 9-0 on the young season.

Things got started early for the Fire, with an Isaac Nunez solo home run in the bottom of the first. It wasn't until the third inning that the Fire scored again, via a Gary Lora sacrifice fly, giving the Fire a 2-0 lead.

A big four-run fourth inning for the Eagles propelled them forward, taking their first lead of the series and jumping out to a 4-2 lead.

The Fire quickly responded with vigor, putting up seven unanswered runs, coming from three home runs in the inning thanks to two, two-run shots from Landrey Wilkerson and Josh Smith, later accompanied by a three-run Pablo Lanzarote blast.

Southeastern was able to hold on to the lead from then on, securing the series sweep against the Eagles for the second year in a row.

Wilkerson led the day with three hits and two RBIs, along with a three RBI day from Lanzarote. Four Fire pitchers combined for 16 strikeouts, with Lex Garcia earning the win on 3.1 innings pitched with six strikeouts.

The Fire return to action next Friday at home, in a three-game series against the #9 ranked Taylor University Trojans.
