Fire Post Three Top Finishes in Keiser Winter Open

LAKE WORTH, Fla. – The Fire had a strong showing in their first test of the season. Southeastern University posted first place finishes by Natalie Rohm, Jadyn Deverna, and Cameron Kier in the Keiser Winter Open Indoor Track & Field event today.

Along with the three first places, SEU captured three more runner-up and a trio of third placers in the meet.

Deverna ran her way to an almost 17-second win in the mile run (5:36.25) over teammate Jaade McBride (5:53.22). Rohm captured the 600-meter run with a time of 1:42.42. Both Fire women placed in the 3,000 meters, with Deverna crossing the line in third (11:21.42) and Rohm in sixth (12:03.51), while Ashlin Price was between them in fourth (11:32.62).

In the men's field, Cameron Kier heaved the best shot put throw of 14.19 meters to take the event. He also threw 12.57 meters for third in the weight throw.

For the team standings, the SEU women were third with 80 points behind Ave Maria and St. Thomas at 221 and 165.5 points. The Fire men were fourth of the six teams at 53 points, while St. Thomas took the title with 203 points over Keiser's 136.

Over in the women's field events, Avery Brincat placed two times with a runner-up placing in the weight throw of 11.15 meters and third in the shot put (9.98m). Jadyn Mosley added team points in the same events with a fourth in the weight throw (8.01m) and fifth for the shot put (9.65m).

McBride ran her way to a fourth place in the 1,000 meters in 3:23.18. Both Grace McGee and Joselyn Rivera registered women's points in the 5K in fifth (21:24.60) and sixth (24:49.55). Riley McKinney rounded out the SEU women with a sixth in the 800 meters in a time of 2:46.64.

Back in the men's side, Nathan Evans ran to a runner-up finish in the 3K run in 9:19.28 with teammate Luke Van Scoy right behind him in fourth (9:30.70).

SEU had four-straight men's runners post points in the mile run, taking fourth through seventh – Jeremy Durbin (4:48.12), Felipe Ledesma (4:49.20), Spencer Louis (4:49.28) and Emilio Ancaya (4:54.33). Noah Joos placed sixth in the 5K (16:25.89) and seventh in the 1K (2:50.52).

The SEU track teams will have the rest of 2024 off and will return in the Jimmy Carnes Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., on January 17.
