MT. VERNON, Ga. – The Fire backcourt showed up when they needed it most. Mya Herman kept Southeastern University close and Anaya Coleman led the fourth quarter charge in a 77-73 women's basketball victory over Brewton-Parker College on Tuesday afternoon.
After Herman scored 18 of the team's 32 points in the opening 20 minutes, Coleman produced 11 of her 14 points in the final period. Coleman assisted on Grace Field's layup and made a 3-point play to start the Fire scoring in the fourth. After SEU ran off 10-straight points, the Barons battled back to within two points, 72-70, with 39 ticks left. Coleman answered with a layup 11 seconds later, but it took Herman's two clinching free throws with 13 seconds to seal it, 77-73.
SEU improves to 12-3 and has won four straight.
Herman scored a game-high 24 points, shooting 8-of-14 from the field, with four three pointers and went a perfect 4-for-4 from the line. Coleman scored 11 of her 14 points, including two treys, and two assists in the final minutes. She added four assists and three steals.
Jodi Mullins totaled 15 points and Courtni Demorest made 4-of-8 shots with two triples for 10 points of her own. Field was solid all-around with 8 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Off the bench, Alley Haas made both her field goals for four points and had two rebounds. Kassidy Jones tallied four rebounds, two points and two assists. Both Rosa Redondo Sorribes, who had four steals, and Arian Smuda, who handed out two assists, grabbed three rebounds.
Brewton-Parker (6-8) saw Destanee Wright almost record a triple-double with 24 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists.
The Fire return to action on Saturday when they host Webber International in a return to Sun Conference play. Tip-off is at 7 p.m..
