MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Southeastern University had their three-game win streak snapped, as they returned from Christmas break and struggled from the floor in the first half, eventually falling to Faulkner University, 82-67, in men's basketball action today.
After the Eagles (11-3) ran off 10 straight points in a three minute span in the opening 10 minutes, the Fire saw themselves down by as much as 23 points in the first half. Trailing by 17 at intermission, SEU tried to power back into the game behind Nelson Reynolds' 17-point second half, but they drew no closer than 13 points, 78-65, with 54 seconds left.
The Fire downed only 7-of-26 first-half field goals with a single trey in 11 attempts, while they committed nine turnovers. The first half saw three Fire players pick up two fouls as well. Faulkner dominated the boards by a 47-22 margin, allowing only five offensive rebounds to SEU on the day.
Reynolds connected on 10-of-16 shots with four 3-pointers in his 24-point day. Derek Murphy hit a pair of treys in his 11 points to go with two rebounds and two assists. Despite some foul trouble, Ahmad Johnson added seven points. Along with Reynolds off the bench, Kyonte Thomas made all four free throws he attempted for half of his eight points to go with an assist. Both Joshua Blazquez and Amir Brikat finished with four points, two rebounds and two steals.
The strong second half wasn't the only bright spot for the Fire, as the defense continued to be a factor for SEU, as they forced 20 Eagles turnover, winning the battle
Faulkner saw six of its players score in double figures in balanced scoring. KJ Rogers paced the attack with 17 points and six boards.
SEU returns home for the first time in 2025 when they hosts Webber International on Saturday evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m..
