BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The Fire drained their early long-range shots and it made a difference. Southeastern University established an early lead and never looked back, beating Coastal Georgia, 75-63, in women's basketball action.
After scoring the game's first four points, SEU got 3-pointers from Jodi Mullins, Kacilyn Krebs, Courtni Demorest and Mya Herman to jump to an eight-point, 22-14, lead in the first quarter. Midway through the second quarter, Grace Field laid in back-to-back buckets as part of a 9-0 run for a 20-point advantage, 36-16, and ended up 44-30 at halftime. Coastal Georgia was cut the lead to eight points in the second half, but it wasn't enough.
Mullins and Field led the Fire attack. Mullins connected on 6-of-13 attempts and all four of her free throws for 17 points, adding three assists. Field hit 6-of-10 tries and her four free throws for 16 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double, with three steals.
Anaya Coleman contributed nine points, four boards, three assists and a pair of steals. Herman added eight points and Krebs had five points and three rebounds. As a team, the Fire out-rebounded the Mariners, 42-30.
Off the bench, Demorest had eight points, pulled down four rebounds and swiped a pass. Rosa Sorribes put up seven points, two rebounds and two assists..
The Mariners' Tyler Butler led the home team with 21 points.
With the win, the Fire (6-2/2-0 Sun Conference) extended their dominance in the series to 18-straight victories. Coastal Georgia drops to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in The Sun Conference.
The Fire return to action on Saturday afternoon, when they travel to St. Thomas University. Tip off is at 6 p.m..
