FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Fire had 17 wrestlers secure multiple wins on Sunday. Southeastern University's Kael Brisker and Lenny Feliciano highlight seven top four place-winners as part of the Georgia Open hosted by Emmanuel College.
#3 Kael Brisker, who was 4-1, claimed four wins, including a tech fall over brother Brody in the semifinals, and headed to the 141 title match. Life University's Pat Gould took the 141 title and gave Brisker second place.
At 174, Feliciano, 4-1 for the day, recorded two tech falls following a bye to the semifinals where he posted a major decision, 14-5, over Zion Smith of Life. His run came up one win short as Nathan Buckovich from Lander bested him by a 7-2 decision in the championship bout.
Another impressive Georgia Open performance was by 157-pounder Nikolas Trujillo. The freshman won his opening three matches of his 5-1 Sunday before he fell by fall to eventual champion Hayden Watson of The Citadel. Trujillo placed 3rd-place.
SEU saw four other Fire wrestlers of Brodie Christmas (125), Brody Brisker (141), Ralph Sanchez (197) and Bryce Wheatley (285) all take 4th-place finishes in their respective weight classes. Christmas started on fire with a fall and two other wins before he dropped the Semifinal to eventual champion Genaro De La Garza of The Citadel by major decision. Christmas, who was 4-2, bounced back with a fall, before he lost by major decision, 13-2, to Gylon Sims of The Citadel in the 3rd-place match.
Brody Brisker racked up four wins by fall in his first four matches on his way to the Semifinals at 141. His brother Kael won the Semifinal matchup, but he ended the day 4-1 and the 4th-place position.
At 197, Sanchez posted five wins in six wrestled matches. After starting 1-1, Sanchez produced a pair of falls, including one in 1:19, and a major decision for his 4th place.
Wheatley, who was 4-2, began his day with a pair of quick falls in only 47 and 55 seconds. He reached the Semifinals where eventual runner-up Earnest Johnson of Life edged a 4-1 decision. Wheatley was the beneficiary of a forfeit to the 3rd place match where Kei Sun Sanders from Keiser took a 15-3 major decision.
SEU starts its home dual match season Friday night in a 7 p.m. match against No. 14 Reinhardt University.
