WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Fire finished the opening set strong, but fell short in the end, as Keiser University took a 3-1 decision in Sun Conference women's volleyball action this afternoon.
Trailing 23-18 in the first set, SEU rattled off seven points in a row capped by a Sylvia Liszewski kill (25-23). Keiser started fast in the second with 9 of the first 10 points and posted the final pair of tallies for middle sets of 25-12 and 25-21. The Fire held small leads for most of the fourth set with a 12-8 advantage after three points in a row. SEU led 21-20 and tied the set again at 23-23 before Keiser downed the final two points and ended the day, 25-23.
With the result, Keiser (24-6) pulled to within 1.5 games of SEU (14-4/7-2 The Sun) in The Sun Conference. The Fire did gain the season split with the Seahawks by taking the first meeting on Sept. 21 by a 3-1 margin.
SEU saw three players record double-doubles on the day. Cambry Pope hit 18 kills and dug 11 attacks to go with two aces, a block and one assist. Yarelis Lopez combined 10 kills and 12 digs for hers with two aces and a block. Setter Alexandra Postlethwaite was the third with 23 assists and 11 digs with an ace.
Both Kennedy Jones (10 kills and nine digs) and Haven Speer (15 assists and nine digs) nearly added two more double-double efforts.
Liszewski chipped in an all-around six blocks, five digs, four kills and two assists. Emma Reed contributed six blocks and five kills along the frontline and Camdyn Gebhards was part of five blocks. Marysa Connors posted a team-high 18 digs.
SEU returns to action on the road Wednesday Night (Oct. 30) at Webber International in a 7 p.m. match.
