Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Alex Munroe

Men's Basketball Falls To Ranked Opponent

The Fire men's basketball team traveled to Miami Gardens looking for their third Sun Conference win, but came up short versus the Florida Memorial Lions, moving to 10-9 (2-4 SUN) on the season.

Southeastern came out of the gate hot, sinking the first two buckets of the game and jumping out to a 4-0 lead. The Lions were able to gather some momentum and take the lead, and closed the half on an 8-2 run.

Going into the end of the first half, Southeastern trailed by 11. Florida Memorial coasted for most of the second half, leading by more than 10 points, until around the 6:30 mark, where the Fire were able to come within eight points of the Lions, their smallest deficit of the second half, after a layup and free throw from Josh Blazquez. The Fire had multiple 7-0 plus runs throughout the game, but weren't enough to take the win on the road.

A total of 15 turnovers from the Fire and 18 points off of Fire turnovers played a big factor in the Lion's success tonight, along with an almost 50% shooting rate from the field.

Reggie Mesidor led the way for the Fire tonight with 17 points and five steals, followed by Sean Shore, who had 15 points on the night, just three points shy of his season high. Blazquez had 13 points on the night, and Amir Brikat also had himself a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Fire continue their Sun Conference slate this Saturday, where they will travel to Lake Wales to take on the Warner Royals, at 4 P.M.
