LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern was successful on a season-best 13 3-pointers, led by six off the hand of
Kacilyn Krebs helped the Fire come away with an 86-69 win over Coastal Georgia on Saturday.
Krebs in the second quarter alone was 4-for-4 from 3-point range with 12 of her team-high 18 points coming in the second.
"She's a great shooter and has battled through some injuries this season," said coach
Brian Neal of Krebs. "I think that's a real indicator of the kind of player she can be."
The Fire (13-4, 4-1 SUN) outscored the Mariners 36-12 in the second 10 minutes, going 13-of-16 from the field as a team and 7-of-8 from 3-point range and finished the quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 30-point lead into the locker room.
"I thought we rebounded well on the defensive side and got the ball out in transition, played fast, and our passing was excellent," said Neal. "We got some really good shots from that and banged in some 3-point shots."
Despite trailing 58-28 at halftime, the Mariners (6-10, 1-4 SUN) used a 6-0 run in the early part of the third quarter to get the deficit down to 26, but a pair of free throws by
Rebecca Cook and a fadeaway 3-pointer by Krebs from in front of her bench swung momentum back the way of the hosts.
The Fire had four other players join Krebs in double figures with
Mya Herman,
Kiki Britzmann, and
Anaya Coleman adding 14 each and
Bekki Kalaydjiev chipping in 13 with three steals.
Southeastern also held a 34-23 advantage in rebounding.
Wednesday, Southeastern will be on the road to Florida Memorial for a 5:30 p.m. start in Miami Gardens.
