MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- Southeastern's defense proved to be a factor in this tremendous road win causing twenty five turnovers with ten coming in the third quarter of a 69-48 win at Florida Memorial.
Bekki Kalaydjiev led the way with a 13-point performance while shooting 3-of-6 from the 3-point line.
The Fire started off slow while trading scores with the Lions and led 19-13 after 10 minutes of play. Leading by two with just under 4:00 left in the second, the Fire started to catch heat right on back-to-back baskets by
Courtni Demorest to go up 30-23 with 2:55 until halftime.
Demorest finished with a career-high 10 points.
Southeastern held the Lions without a basket the final 3:51 of the half and got a 3-pointer from
Kacilyn Krebs with 11 seconds left in the second to hold a 33-23 lead at halftime.
Out of halftime the Fire stepped on the gas and did not let up the rest of the game. With consistent scoring from Kalaydjiev and
Kiki Britzmann, the Fire jumped out to a 20-point lead with 2:53 left in the third on a 3-pointer by Krebs.
Britzmann finished with 12 points and
Anja Knoflach was also in double-figures with 11 points.
Rebecca Cook had a team-best 11 rebounds and a team-high seven assists.
Southeastern scored 22 of its points off of the 25 turnovers by FMU and also blocked nine shots.
The Fire will be back in action on Saturday at Warner at 2 p.m.
