BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Despite dropping the first set against the Mariners, Southeastern bounced back to take the next three sets in 3-1 win on the road in their first conference matchup over College of Coastal Georgia.
Grace Petty and Emilia Harding both recorded double-digit kills for the Fire, Petty with 16 and Harding with 14. Petty also threw in three service aces along with 16 digs.
The Fire dropped set one 27-25 after ten attack errors.
In set two, Southeastern jumped ahead 5-0 behind three kills and two attack errors. The Mariners kept it close but ultimately could never take the lead, resulting in a 25-22 lead for the Fire.
Coastal Georgia kept it interesting in set three, leading the majority of the set. A Cambry Pope kill and service ace by Petty gave the Fire the 22-21 advantage late in the set. After a SEU service error and a kill by the Mariners, the set was tied 25-25. A service error and a kill by Harding took the set 27-25.
Southeastern hit a match-best .226 in the final set to take the 25-21 win. The Fire led the whole set, taking advantage of Coastal Georgia's .027 hitting percentage and nine attack errors.
Postlethwaite led the team in assists with 35.
Southeastern will be back on the road next Wednesday, September 20th, as they travel to Babson Park, Fla. to play conference opponent Webber International at 7 p.m.
