Baseball Comes Out on Top in Pitcher’s Duel

FAYETTE, Mo.—Southeastern had to overcome a 2-1 deficit in the sixth to win their 13th consecutive NAIA National Tournament Opening Round win.

A solo homer by Jose Marcano in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Southeastern a 3-2 win over Madonna to advance to play Kansas Wesleyan tomorrow at noon Eastern.

"Our bullpen arms have really come through for us at the end of games," said coach Adrian Dinkel. "Madonna's pitcher did a really good job holding us down and we were lucky enough to get to their bullpen."

The Fire (53-4) were held to just two runs on six hits in the first six innings of the game with Isaac Nunez starting the scoring with his 16th home run of the season in the bottom of the third.

Adonys Herrera's third hit of the game came in the sixth when he hit a one-out triple off the right field wall, then scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Gary Lora.

On the mound, Robb Adams went 6.1 innings and struck out five, allowing two earned runs on the sixth inning homer, surrendering just seven hits and coaxing 10 groundouts.

Andrew Long picked up his seventh win of the season, allowing one hit in an inning of work. Reece Wissinger earned his fifth save of the season by striking out four of the five that he faced in an inning and two-thirds.
