WINTER PARK, Fla.—Southeastern has knocked off five ranked teams and an NCAA Division II team this season, but never on the same day.
That changed Friday night when the No. 6 team in the NAIA knocked off NCAA Division II No. 10 Rollins 4-2 at Copeland Stadium.
The Fire improved to 14-3 on the season by taking the doubles point by getting a win from
Guido Luna and
Enrique Martinez at the second flight and a win at the first flight from
Christian Garay and
Diego Menendez.
Rollins (14-4) tied the match with a win at No. 4 singles, but
Federico Barbon was a 7-5, 7-5 winner at No. 3 singles to give the Fire a 2-1 advantage. The Tars tied the match with a three-set win at No. 2 singles which the Fire answered with a three-set win at No. 5 singles by
Guido Luna 6-4, 6-7, 7-5.
Christian Garay trailed his No. 1 singles match 1-0 after dropping the first set 6-2 to Efe Comu, the No. 51 player in Division II, but came back with 6-4 and 6-2 wins to clinch the match.
Southeastern will be back on the courts next Friday at Coastal Georgia.
