Men’s Tennis Stuns Division II No. 10

WINTER PARK, Fla.—Southeastern has knocked off five ranked teams and an NCAA Division II team this season, but never on the same day.

That changed Friday night when the No. 6 team in the NAIA knocked off NCAA Division II No. 10 Rollins 4-2 at Copeland Stadium.

The Fire improved to 14-3 on the season by taking the doubles point by getting a win from Guido Luna and Enrique Martinez at the second flight and a win at the first flight from Christian Garay and Diego Menendez.

Rollins (14-4) tied the match with a win at No. 4 singles, but Federico Barbon was a 7-5, 7-5 winner at No. 3 singles to give the Fire a 2-1 advantage. The Tars tied the match with a three-set win at No. 2 singles which the Fire answered with a three-set win at No. 5 singles by Guido Luna 6-4, 6-7, 7-5.

Christian Garay trailed his No. 1 singles match 1-0 after dropping the first set 6-2 to Efe Comu, the No. 51 player in Division II, but came back with 6-4 and 6-2 wins to clinch the match.

Southeastern will be back on the courts next Friday at Coastal Georgia.
