Three Weekend Home Contests Ahead for Fire Baseball

LAKELAND, Fla.- Nearing the conclusion of the 2023 regular season, Southeastern baseball will host Florida Memorial University this weekend for a three-game Sun Conference series on Friday at 3 and 6 p.m. and Saturday at 12 p.m.
 
The prolific offense of the No. 1 ranked Fire has outscored their opponents 470-144, averaging 10.6 runs per contest and have trailed their opponents after the seventh inning only six times this season.
 
The Fire's collective .358 batting average, .463 on-base percentage, and .667 slugging percentage all rank at the top of the NAIA along with their 516 hits, 113 home runs, 435 RBI's, and 470 runs scored.
 
Isaac Nunez sits at the top of the Fire offense with a .437 average and 69 hits including a team-best 26 multiple hits games. The senior has also swiped 15 bags which leads the Fire.
 
Gary Lora's 58 RBI's and 15 home runs on the season leads the run production as he currently holds a resounding .791 slugging percentage with a 16-game hit streak and 29-game reached base streak. Lora has also drawn 26 walks for a .508 on-base percentage.
 
Adonys Herrera holds a team-high .529 on-base percentage including a current on-base streak of 33 games behind 26 walks which ties Lora for the team lead.
 
On the mound, the Fire have also dominated as they sit at the top of the NAIA in both ERA (3.13) and opponent batting average (.214), tossing six shutouts which ranks second nationally.
 
Darien Smith has gone a staff-high 60.1 innings, posting a 9-2 record with a 3.58 ERA and a complete game and averages 13.87 strikeouts per game.
 
In SUN play, Reece Wissinger has struck out 19 batters in just 9.2 innings for a 1.86 ERA, grabbing one win and two saves.
 
The Lions sit at sixth in the SUN behind five NAIA receiving votes teams with a 16-17 overall record and 6-9 SUN record and are coming off a 2-1 series loss to Webber International.
 
In conference play, the Lions average 8.3 hits and 4.7 runs per contest and hold a collective .256 batting average. Allan Berrios leads the way with a .385 average and 20 hits.
 
The pitching staff holds a collective 7.20 ERA in SUN play with Max Charnin tallying a team-high 35 innings. Charnin holds a 2.31 ERA and 3-1 record and has held SUN opponents to a .226 average behind 20 strikeouts.
 
Southeastern holds a current nine-game winning streak and 25-3 historical home record over the Lions with the last loss dating back to May 6th, 2018 in the Sun Conference Tournament Final.
