Final Road Test This Weekend for Fire Baseball

LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern holds a two-game lead in The Sun Conference baseball standings and will play their final six games at home.
 
Before that, the Fire will head to St. Thomas this weekend for a three-game series starting with a Saturday doubleheader.
 
Southeastern has won its last five games following a three-game sweep of Keiser, coming back from a two-run deficit in the first game and a six-run deficit in the third game. First baseman Gary Lora earned NAIA Player of the Week honors after posting a .533 average last week with four home runs and 12 RBIs.
 
Over the last 10 games, Lora is hitting .457 with seven extra-base hits and 16 RBIs. Chayce Bryant has had a hot bat as of late as well with six homers in his last 10 games played.
 
On the mound, Olvis Genao and Reece Wissinger have been stellar out of the bullpen with Wissinger posting 12 strikeouts in his last 5.2 innings of work with a pair of saves, holding opponents to a .190 average against. Genao has worked 4.2 innings without allowing an earned run over his last four appearances with eight strikeouts.
 
St. Thomas is currently 20-19 on the season and are currently tied for third at 6-6 in Sun Conference play after taking two of three at Florida Memorial over the weekend. The Bobcats are third in the conference in runs scored at 321 and fourth in batting average at .299. In 318 innings, the pitching staff has struck out 343, walked 184, and has an ERA of 6.62.
 
Brian Garcia is the top bat for St. Thomas at .375 on the season, ranking ninth in The Sun Conference and ranks 14th in slugging at .633. Omar Baldo is 11th in the league in on base percentage at .483.
 
The Fire have won their last five meetings with St. Thomas which includes a comeback win in last year's Sun Conference Championship game by the score of 10-9. The last time the teams played in Miami Gardens, the Bobcats won two of three during 2021 season sweeping the Saturday doubleheader.
 
The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday and will close the series on Sunday with a 12 p.m. first pitch.
