Baseball Completes Sweep of Warner

LAKE WALES, Fla.—Southeastern was able to withstand a late charge by the hosts in its Sun Conference series finale Saturday at Warner.

The Fire saw a three-run lead evaporate early, then had to hold off a three-run rally in the ninth to come away with an 8-6 win to improve to 6-0 in league play and 33-1 overall.

Adonys Herrera gave the Fire a 2-0 lead in the first with a two-run homer and Josh Pigozzo executed a squeeze bunt in the second to push the lead to three. Warner answered with three in the bottom of the second on two balls hit to the outfield.

Chayce Bryant's 10th homer of the season in the third was a three-run bomb to break the tie. Isaac Nunez added a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly.

Warner came back with an RBI single in the seventh which was answered by a Gary Lora RBI single to give the Fire an 8-4 lead.

In the ninth, an RBI groundout by the Royals made it 8-5, then an RBI single got the Royals within two with two outs, but a Reece Wissinger strikeout ended the game.

Southeastern used six pitchers to get through the game with Danny Batcher going two innings, allowing three earned on five hits with two walks. David Mata righted the ship with two shutout innings with two strikeouts. Juan Pimentel scored his third win of the season, allowing a run on two hits over 2.2 innings with five strikeouts to the 11 batters he faced. Olvis Genao had a pair of strikeouts over an inning and a third, and Ryan Eiermann allowed two earned on a hit in two thirds of an inning.

Pablo Lanzarote, Lora, and Bryant had two hits each to lead the offense.

The Fire will head to Ave Maria next weekend for its third conference series of the season.
