Sekinger's Second Complete Game of the Weekend Aids in Second SUN Sweep

LAKE WALES, Fla.- Late scoring by Southeastern softball (16-8) moved them to a perfect 6-0 in Sun Conference play today as they took game three and their second SUN sweep with a 4-3 win over Warner University in eight innings.

Neither team scratched out a run until the sixth inning when singles by Lauren Sekinger and Chapel Cunningham put two on with one out. Erica Stahl then tallied an RBI after scoring Sekinger with a fielder's choice. A throwing error on the same play brought home Cunningham as well for a 2-0 Fire lead.

The Royals responded with their first runs of the series after a two-run double tied the contest in the sixth.

Extra innings would be needed to decide game three. The Fire struck first after a sacrifice bunt by Jamie Mead and RBI-bunt single by Leah Gonzalez scored Stahl after being placed on second to begin the inning. Two batters later the lead would move to 4-2 after a throwing error brought home another Fire run.

The Royals threatened in the bottom half of the frame after a Fire error moved the score to 4-3 but a groundout and strikeout secured the series sweep.

Claire Sekinger moved to 8-2 on the season after going all eight innings and allowing two earned runs on four hits and striking out 11.

At the plate, Cunningham and Sekinger each recorded two hits.

Southeastern will next face off against St. Thomas in Miami Gardens with a 6 p.m. single contest on Friday and Saturday doubleheader at 12 and 2 p.m.
