Fire Shutout Royals in Back-To-Back Contests

LAKE WALES, Fla.- Southeastern softball (15-8, 5-0 SUN) excelled in both sides of the game today, taking game one of the Sun Conference series against Warner University by a score of 1-0 in a pitcher's duel and game two 4-0 after a commanding offensive effort that saw 15 hits.

Claire Sekinger moved to 7-2 on the season after another complete game shutout with nine strikeouts and four hits.

Chapel Cunningham ended game one with three of the Fire's four hits and tallied two stolen bases.

The lone Fire run came in the top of the fifth after singles by Alex Hilton and Cunningham and a walk by Jamie Mead loaded the bases. A two-out wild pitch was the difference maker, allowing Hilton to trot home for the eventual game-winning run.

Game two was a very different tale for the Fire as they tallied 15 hits with four different Fire players recording multiple hits. Danielle Wasserstrom led the way with a 3-4 effort and two runs scored while Cunningham, Erica Stahl, and Nicki Wasserstrom each collected multiple hits.

No. 16 ranked Southeastern got on the board in the top of the first after Cunningham led off the game with a single, stole second, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a Royals' error.

The next inning, Danielle Wasserstrom led off the inning with a single into right field and came around to score on another defensive miscue, moving the Fire lead to two.

Three consecutive singles by the Fire in the third loaded the bases with one out as the Fire then capitalized on the third Royals' error to take a 3-0 lead.

The final run of the doubleheader came in the sixth after Stahl lined a one-out double and scored on a Leash Gonzalez RBI single.

Autumn Hunter advanced to 7-4 on the season after going 5.2 innings and allowing no runs on four hits.

The Fire will look to complete their second SUN sweep with game three of the series tomorrow at 4 p.m.
