LAKELAND, Fla.- Southeastern softball (13-8, 3-0 SUN) advanced their win streak to eight today after taking a 2-0 win over Avila University.
Claire Sekinger moved to 6-2 on the season after a 10-strikeout performance that allowed no runs on five hits in six innings.
Autumn Hunter earned her second save of the season after coming on in the seventh and striking out two of her three batters faced.
Both of the Fire runs came in the bottom of the third after
Jamie Mead drew a one-out walk and came around to score on back-to-back singles by
Erica Stahl and
Leah Gonzalez. Stahl then advanced to third after an Eagle error and scored off an RBI sacrifice fly into center field by
Danielle Wasserstrom.
The two runs in the third would prove enough for the Fire to move to 13-8 on the season.
Stahl concluded the contest as the lone Fire hitter with a multi-hit game while Gonzalez picked up her team-best 19
th RBI on the season.
Game two was ruled a no-contest in the bottom of the fourth with the Fire leading 8-3 due to sunset.
Southeastern will face their second Sun Conference series of the season this weekend as they head to Lake Wales, Fla. to take on Warner University with a 4 p.m. contest on Friday and doubleheader and 12 and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
