LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern puts its 12-0 record on the line this week as it hosts three different teams for five games this week.
The Fire are coming off a three-game sweep of No. 17 Oklahoma Wesleyan over the weekend where they slugged .561 as a team with seven home runs and 25 RBIs. The pitching staff did its part with a 2.42 ERA over the weekend in 26 innings of work with 34 strikeouts.
Chayce Bryant leads the team in average with 13 hits in 26 at bats with a team-high five home runs.
Isaac Nunez has posted a .467 average with a team-high 45 at bats with 21 hits. His .538 on-base percentage ranks fifth in the NAIA.
Southeastern plays host to Ave Maria for a non-conference game on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Gyrenes come in with a 9-3 record and have won five-straight. Cameron Horner has been the top arm so far with a 4-0 record and an ERA of 3.00 in 18 innings of work. He's struck out 18 and has held opponents to a .194 average. Jimmy Coffey leads the offense with a .364 average and a .576 slugging percentage. Jose Gonzalez is slugging .718 with five doubles and three homers.
Friday, the Fire host Point Park for two seven-inning games starting at 1 p.m. The Pioneers are 2-2 on the season with three games against ranked or receiving votes teams. Saturday, Point Park was a 9-8 winner over Campbellsville and defeated No. 6 Faulkner 6-5 in 10 innings on Monday. Jared Campbell is one of three players to record six hits for PPU during opening weekend with a .462 average, and drove in seven.
Judson opens its 2023 season with the Fire on Saturday, coming off of a 22-30 season last year. The two teams are meeting for the first time since 2020 when the Fire won 10-0. In 2018, Judson took two of three, sweeping the doubleheader on Saturday, March 3
rd to end SEU's 21-game season opening win streak.
