Busy Week Ahead for Men's Basketball

LAKELAND, Fla.- After a week off from competition, Southeastern men's basketball will look to a three-game week as they host Trinity Baptist College on Monday at 7 p.m. before concluding the week hosting the SEU Classic on Friday and Saturday.
 
The Fire will take on Cumberland University (Tenn.) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and the University of Saint Francis on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. to conclude the tournament.
 
Off to a 4-5 start to their season, the Fire offense currently averages 70.3 points per game behind a .444 field goal percentage and .301 three-point percentage. Four different members of the Fire average more than 10 points a game including Joshua Blazquez and Makai Vassell who average 12.6 and 12.4 points per game respectively. Blazquez has shot .465 from the field while also leading the team in assists (20) and steals (8). Vassell sits at .458 from the field and has gone 5-9 from three-point range. Anthony Duncan has been the most consistent offensive threat, posting a .619 field goal percentage.
 
Vassell also leads a defense that has held opponents to 66.3 points per game with a team-high eight rebounds per game.
 
The Eagles of Trinity Baptist hold a 3-5 overall record, recently breaking a five-game losing streak with a 76-73 win over Pensacola Christian last week. Collectively, the offense averages 80 points per game, shooting .416 from the field and .316 from three-point range.
 
The Fire hold a 10-1 historical record over the Eagles with their last meeting coming in the 2016 season.
 
The Phoenix of Cumberland University hold a 4-5 overall record and are currently riding a three-game winning streak. The Phoenix average 73.4 points per game while allowing 85.3 points per game from their competitors and have shot .426 from the field and .335 from beyond the arc. Demarius Boyd averages 23.1 points per game, shooting .504 from the field and .325 from three-point range.
 
The Cougars of Saint Francis hold a 7-3 overall record, averaging 89.1 points per game with a .504 field goal percentage. Four different Cougars average 10 or more points per game including Charlie Yoder with 18.3 points per game behind a .538 field goal percentage.
 
The last matchup between the Fire and the Cougars came in 2021 with the Fire taking the narrow 74-72 win.
