MARIETTA, Ga.—The Fire wrestling team posted a pair of fourth place finishes, a fifth-place finish, and a runner-up performance during the Life U Open on Saturday.
Chris Kelly was second at 149, winning a 4-1 match in the semis over North Carolina's Connor Alexander who was a three-time state champion in Virginia. He dropped the final to Michigan commit Cooper Hilton, 8-1.
Trace Braun was fourth at 165, cruising into the quarterfinals with a major decision, a technical fall, and a first period fall. Braun also picked up another technical fall in the wrestlebacks before dropping the third-place bout.
Gentry Smith was fourth at 197 with a pair of falls. At 141,
Kael Brisker was fifth with a pair of technical falls in his first three matches before a 4-2 loss in the quarters to No. 25 Jordan Mitchell. He came back with a major decision and a decision in the consolation bracket.
The Fire will head to Great Falls, Mont. For a pair of Duals on December 1
st against the University of Providence and Montana State University-Northern along with the Battle of the Rockies.
