Football Looks to Stay Hot in Rivalry Game

LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern heads to Webber International today for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff against Polk County rival Webber International with a chance to move to 2-0 in Sun Conference play.

The Fire had a breakout game offensively in its SUN opener last Saturday in a 54-9 win over Warner at Victory Field. The hosts scored on their first five possessions of the contest with four of those starting in Warner territory thanks to a pair of first half takeaways during a four-takeaway game for the defense.

Additionally, Dominic Larry took the third quarter kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown for the first kickoff return TD in program history. He was named The Sun Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, adding a 15-yard touchdown reception from Nate Hayden.

The quick start to the third quarter coming out of an hour lightning delay should come as no surprise as the Fire have been dominant after the intermission this season, outscoring their opponents 47-0 en route to a 67-16 second half advantage.

In addition to the four takeaways, SEU's defense limited Warner to just 209 total yards and went three-and-out five times in 13 possessions. James Hamilton was The Sun Conference Player of the Week with a pair of interceptions and a fumble recovery.

The Fire defense is second in the NAIA in yards allowed per game at 232.3.

Webber International comes in at 1-3 on the season, picking up a 49-14 victory in the season opener at St. Andrews. The Warriors came up short in overtime to Cumberland University and rallied in the fourth quarter against Stetson the following week to get the final margin down to 10 with three fourth quarter touchdowns.

Last week, the Warriors dropped their SUN opener to St. Thomas, 41-16. Webber committed three turnovers and the Bobcats punted just twice.

Former Fire defensive lineman Josiah Everett leads the Warriors with 4.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.

This is the 10th meeting all-time between the two programs separated by 33.4 miles and is the only team Southeastern has played each season. Webber won the first meeting in 2014 and won the most recent meeting last season 34-24.
