Volleyball Sweeps Another Sun Conference Contest

LAKELAND, Fla.- Southeastern volleyball completed their sixth Sun Conference sweep of the season today after downing third-seeded Keiser University to move to 10-2 in conference play.

The Fire took advantage of a .081 opponent hitting percentage to take the match with set scores of 25-20, 25-23, and 25-17.

Southeastern began the match with a 5-3 lead before a five-point run from the Seahawks pushed the Fire to a 8-5 deficit. The Fire offense then caught momentum, going on a 10-1 run behind three kills by Chapel Cunningham and two from Emilia Harding to take a 19-5 lead. The lead quickly disappeared after another five-point run by the Seahawks behind two service aces moved the Fire lead to just one. After a Fire timeout, two kills by Tatyana Lyons began a four-point run that ended the set 25-20.

Southeastern hit .277 with 16 kills in set one.

A match-best .343 attack percentage from the Fire in set two secured the 25-23 win. Trailing 7-4, the Fire again responded with six consecutive points to go ahead 10-7 and force a Seahawk timeout. The Seahawks would continue to lead the set until two Fire kills and two errors gave Southeastern a two-point advantage. Southeastern managed to cling to the slim lead with a kill by Cambry Pope ending set two.

Southeastern took advantage of a negative attack percentage from the Seahawks in set three to take the match. With the Seahawks leading 7-6, the Fire recorded 10 straight points behind seven Keiser errors to take a significant 16-7 lead, a hole too large to climb out of for the Seahawks as Southeastern would take set three, 25-17.

Lyons led both the offense and defense with 11 kills and five blocks.

Alexandra Postlethwaite recorded 35 assists while Grace Petty led the team in digs with 19. Petty also recorded nine kills, three blocks, and two service aces.

Southeastern will next head to Ave Maria Fla. to take on the Gyrenes on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
