Offense Carries Volleyball past Webber

LAKELAND, Fla.—A total of 44 kills and a .339 success rate on the attack helped Southeastern come away with a 3-0 victory over Webber International on Wednesday to improve to 17-3 on the season and record their seventh-straight victory.
 
The Fire also had success at the service line with a total of 10 aces on the night.
 
A back-and-forth battle in the first set kept the teams within two points through the first 38 rallies before the Fire took a 21-18 lead with a 4-0 run. The Fire took the set 25-22 on a service error to end it. The defense was busy in the first set with 14 total digs to go along with 14 kills on offense.
 
Southeastern posted a .372 hitting percentage with 18 kills on 43 attacks in the second set, jumping out to a 9-1 lead. Emilia Harding had three of her 10 kills on the night in the first three rallies of the set. She finished with a .417 attacking percentage.
 
Webber International (9-10, 3-6 SUN) got within six with a 4-1 run to get the score to 12-6, but the Fire got the next three points on kills by Tatyana Lyons and Grace Petty, and an attack error by Webber. SEU came away with the set 25-20.
 
Petty led the offense with 12 kills and added three aces.
 
The third set was tied at four when Southeastern used a 14-1 run to build a commanding lead. Lyons had two more kills in the set and finished the night with eight kills, a .438 attacking percentage, two solo blocks, and assisted on two others. Webber refused to go quietly, winning four match points before an attack error ended the match at 25-16.
 
Cambry Pope added nine kills to the offense, along with a pair of aces and seven digs. Brooke Henry led the back row with 15 digs.
 
Alexandra Postlethwaite had 37 assists and added 12 digs and three aces.
 
The Fire will head to Miami Gardens on Saturday to take on first-place St. Thomas.
