MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - The Southeastern women's basketball team improved to 7-10 (4-3 SUN)  after an impressive 77-69 Sun Conference victory against St. Thomas. 
 
The Fire set the tone quickly after they took the initial lead with a deep three pointer within the first 15 seconds of the game. Southeastern continued to have success offensively as they were able to jump out in front 12-5. The Bobcats seemingly caught their rhythm with an 11-4 run to tie the game 16-16 with a minute remaining in the first quarter. The lead would interchange a total of five times within the second quarter where the Fire would lead 32-30 heading into the half. 
 
As a team, Southeastern shot 30% from the field and 38.4% from the three-point line. 
 
Coming out of the half, Southeastern continued to have momentum and continued their success on the offensive side of the ball. The Fire went on an 8-3 run to lead by as many as seven within the first two minutes of the third quarter. However, in the fourth quarter, the Bobcats rallied back and tied the game 58-58 after a good three-pointer with 7:30 remaining in the game. The Fire responded with three defensive stops while still executing on offense to gain the lead and extend it to six. St. Thomas rallied once more to give themselves a chance for the lead, tying the game at 67-67 with 3:23 remaining, but ultimately fell as the Fire executed on late game free throws to secure the victory. 
 
Southeastern shot 41% from the field, 42.9% from behind the arc, and 71.4% from the free throw line.
 
Gabby Suarez had a double-double leading the Fire in points with 24 and rebounds with 10. All five starters finished in double figures in points: Josselin Geer (15), Anja Knoflach (14), Kiki Britzmann (14), and Emilia Sexton (10). 
 
Sexton led the team in assists (8) and steals (3). 
 
The Fire return to action Saturday, January 14 at Keiser in West Palm Beach at 2 p.m.
